About Geospatial / GIS Data
GIS data typically comes in two forms: vector data or raster data.
- Vector Data (Point, Line, Polygon)
- Point: non-adjacent features and discrete data points
- Eg: city locations, points of interest, or school locations
- Line: linear features and one dimension (length) data
- Eg: road center lines, hydrology
- Polygon: two dimensional features and area and perimeter data
- Eg: Boundary of a city, lake, or province
- Point: non-adjacent features and discrete data points
- Raster Data (Grid)
- Cell based data
- Eg: aerial and satellite imagery
- Two types: continuous and discrete
- Cell based data
