Interlibrary Loans Borrowing

Interlibrary Loans allows faculty, staff and students to request physical or digital copies of materials not available at the University of Regina. Users must have a currently active library account to place interlibrary loan requests. Use your @uregina.ca credentials to log in to place interlibrary loan requests.

Track an ILL Request Search for Materials

Request using Quick Find

  • Sign into My Library Account in Quick Find using your @uregina.ca username and password. 
  • Search for your title or topic in Quick Find, then select "Click here to include results from other libraries."

  • When you find the item you're looking for, click "Get it for me from other libraries."

  • In the item record, click the Get It button for a digital or physical request.

  • If the search fails to find what you require, click the link at the top of the page that says "Still didn't find what you need? Click here to send a request" and you will be taken to a blank request form.

    • If you know the DOI or PMID of the item you're interested in, enter this into the DOI or PMID field and press Auto fill. The information about your item will auto populate in the form. 
    • If you don't know the DOI or PMID, enter the full citation details of your item and add any comments. 
    • If you live outside of Regina, select Home Address and enter your address in the comments to have the item delivered to your home. 
    • Agree to the terms of use and click Send Request. 

Request using a library database

  • Select a database from the Library's A-Z Database list and perform your search. 
  • Click on “Where can I get this?”, “Find Full Text” or “Look for a Copy”
  • This will redirect you to Quick Find. Sign in to your Library Account
  • Click the Get It button for a digital or physical request in the item record, agree to terms of use and click Submit
  • If options such as "Where can I get this?", "Find Full Text" or "Look for a Copy" are not available, use the blank request form

Request Status, Notification and Delivery

  • Check the status of your request any time from your Library Account in Quick Find. You will receive an email when the item is ready.
  • All notifications will be sent to the email address associated with your Library Account. By default this is your @uregina.ca email account. You will be notified by email when a request is placed, when it is available, or if it is cancelled.
  • Chapters, articles, and short sections will be emailed to you, and complete items like books will be physically sent to Archer Library for pickup. Users outside of Regina can request home delivery of materials. 
  • Delivery time for physical items is a minimum of 1-2 weeks, and can vary depending on shipping method, location and other factors outside of the library's control
  • Delivery time for articles or book chapters is approximately 2-5 days, a link will be sent via email that is available for download for 10 days and can be accessed 5 times. Links to digital items will expire, so remember to save the PDF.
    • If a license term requires that only a print copy be supplied to the end user, a pickup notice will be sent by email and the copy will be held at the Help Desk in the Archer Library

Loans, Renewals, and Fees

  • Loan periods for Interlibrary Loan materials are set by the lending library. The usual loan period is 4-6 weeks from the date of arrival in the library. The due date can be found on the book band and in your Library Account
  • Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library
  • Renewals must be requested at least 3 days before the due date
  • Place a renewal request through your Library Account. After log in, find the request and click renew. When an item is renewed you will receive a due date confirmation via email, renewal lengths vary based on the supplying libraries policies. If no renewal email is received, the item remains due on the original due date and is subject to fees.
  • Interlibrary Loans are subject to Fees:
    • Faculty, Staff, Students: No Charge for loans
    • Alumni and Community Borrowers: $25.00 per loan
    • Lost or Damaged Items: Fee of $150.00/item will be applied to your library account
      • Items are declared lost 32 days after their due date
      • After 60 additional days, outstanding lost or damaged charges on patron accounts will be transferred to Financial Services for collection. Financial Services will block registration, convocation, and release of credits until outstanding fees have been paid.
      • No refunds will be given after fees are paid on your library account or transferred to Financial Services. To pay a fee on your library account see Online Payment of Fines and Fees

Item Pick Up and Return

  • Most requested articles will be delivered via email
  • You can pick up all other requested materials at the Help Desk in the Archer Library during regular hours
  • All physical materials, like complete books, can be returned at the Help Desk in the Archer Library or through the book drop outside of the library
