Digital Collections

The Archer Library and Archives has a growing list of locally created digital collections and online exhibits, featuring unique and unusual items from Archives and Special Collections. We are actively digitizing materials to add to these collections.

Archer Library: Early Days
This exhibit presents photographs and documents related to the planning, construction, and opening of the Archer Library. Read the opening address from John H. Florence A. Kirk: Letters from China, 1932-1950
Florence Kirk taught English at Ginling College in China. Raised on a homestead in Saskatchewan, China was an exotic adventure that Florence documented with letters home to family and friends. 413 letters, consisting of about 2700 pages, are presented here. The letters provide a compelling, captivating, and profoundly moving account of life in China during a tumultuous period of its modern history.
Joe Fafard Slide Collection
Nationally and internationally acclaimed artist, Joe Fafard is one of Canada's leading visual artists. In the 1970s much of his sculpture used clay as a medium, since 1985 he has shifted to bronze. This collection consists of about 3,800 slides documenting his art.
Mary Filer: Artist’s Archive, 1920-2016
Mary Filer (1920-2016) is remembered as a talented artist and master of several mediums, including drawing, painting, glass sculpture, and mural work. This online exhibit showcases a range of artwork from the Mary Filer archival collection, including Filer’s series of watercolours documenting Regina in the 1940s, linocuts and charcoals from the 1950s and 1960s, and abstract works produced in the 1980s.
Regina College and the First World War - The Great War
Drawing on materials held at the University of Regina Archives & Special Collections this website documents the local contribution and sacrifice to the ‘Great War’. In 1914 Regina College, the precursor of the University of Regina, was a small Methodist college on the Canadian prairie. By the end of the war over 141 students and faculty members would go off to fight. What follows are their stories and others.
Regina College – An Historical Timeline
A detailed timeline of the evolution of Regina College from the early 20th century to 1959. The timeline is augmented with selections from general calendars, yearbooks, student newspapers and other publications. Also included are photographs and a set of interactive maps.
Saskatchewan History Online
A searchable collection of photographs, videos, audio, and textual materials like letters, books, and diaries from galleries, libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions across the province. The University of Regina participates in this province-wide initiative to digitize materials relating to Saskatchewan history and heritage.
Spectacle, Sport & Story: Picturing the 1936 Olympics
This short film features a set of 1936 Olympic trading cards from the Theodore Heinrich collection. It tells the story of the winter and summer games that were both held in Nazi Germany.

Web site of over 4,500 postcards found in eleven archives throughout Saskatchewan, including the University of Regina.
Yearbook Collection
A full-text searchable collection of 37 student yearbooks associated with the University of Regina's predecessors - Regina College, the University of Saskatchewan (Regina College), and the University of Saskatchewan (Regina Campus). Titles date from 1914-1968 and include The Regina College Register, The College Register, The Freshman and The Tower.
