ECS 300: Finding Journal Articles in CBCA Education

Important Canadian education journals

The following are a few Canadian education journals that you should be aware of in your degree program, and afterwards, when you're teaching.

CBCA Education: Information and getting connected

    • CBCA Education is a database that the Library subscribes to that lists references to journal and magazine articles in the area of Canadian (mostly) education. Note that newsletters like the Sask. Teachers Federation Bulletin are included, not just academic journals
    • Google itself is a database that lists references (in this case, URLs) to Web documents from all over the world
    • About 1/3 of the articles listed in the CBCA Education database are available full text online from it; many others are available either in paper copy or in another journal article database from the library
    • To get to CBCA Education, go to Library’s homepage: http://www.uregina.ca/library

  • Click the Databases tab in the middle of the screen
  • At Find Database by Subject, use the drop-down menu to select Education, and click Find
  • Scroll down and click CBCA Education
  • If you’re coming from off campus, you’ll be asked for an ID and password. Your ID is your last name, without hyphens or spaces and in lower case, and your password is the barcode number (not student number) on your student ID card. Or you can use your U of R e-mail/URCourses/computer account ID and password instead
  • Click Advanced Search above the search box: it's easier to use due to giving you a fill-in-the-blanks format
  • Note both the Help link with the question mark at the top right of the page: , and the Tips link above the search boxes: the Help will provide help on doing an Advanced Search, and the Tips provide help with things like Boolean operators, phrase searching, etc.
