The second stream in WGST is called Women and Health. It is focused on national and global environments, institutions, developments, and attitudes in regard to women’s health and wellness. The stream's rationale is:
1. to challenge the conceptualization of women as “the female” (either problematically in relation to, or undifferentiated from, the male) within the discursive field of health;
2. to engender health studies so that attention is paid to important social categories as gender, sexuality, race, geo-political location, religion, poverty, age, and violence, all of which impact on health; and
3. to introduce students to emergent feminist discourses in relation to health and well-being.
The course in this stream consists of WGST 301 (Women and Health Local and Global).
