Historical Periodicals Online

17th and 18th Century Burney Newspapers Collection The largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news media available from the British Library, this primary sources database includes more than 1,000 pamphlets, proclamations, newsbooks and newspapers from the period. The collection charts the development of the newspaper as we now know it, beginning with irregularly published transcriptions of Parliamentary debates and proclamations to coffee house newsbooks, finally arriving at newspaper in its current form. Gathered by Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817), the collection covers more than 200 years of accounts, explanations, and points of views. More than 700 bound volumes of newspapers relate political, educational and economic situations – including English provincial, Irish, Scottish and a handful of papers from British colonies, in the Americas and Asia – relate political, educational and economic situations chosen from more than three dozen cities.
Eighteenth Century Journals I to V The Portal to Newspapers and Periodicals c1685-1815 offers seamless, integrated access to Sections I, II, III,IV and V of the digital project Eighteenth Century Journals.
Women's Magazine Archive Provides archival runs of leading women’s consumer magazines dating from the late 19th through to the 21st century, documenting evolving assumptions about gender roles and cultural mores. All content, including advertisements, is fully searchable. British Library Newspapers British Library Newspapers collection contains full runs of over 100 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. This collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
The Archer Library has access to parts I to V.
" Date Range. Users will notice that coverage of titles from Parts I and II does not extend beyond 1900, even if some of those individual titles continued to publish issues in the 20th century. A decision was taken by the British Library, primarily based around rights issues, to make the stop date for the series 1900.
For Parts III-V, a different approach was taken, with some titles extending into the 20th century.
19th Century UK Periodicals 19th Century UK Periodicals is a major new multi-part series which covers the events, lives, values and themes that shaped the 19th century world. Series I on New Readerships provides access to close to 100 periodicals for the study of British life in the 19th century - from women to sports and leisure, and from children to humour. It is mainly based on the repositories of the British Library and the National Library of Scotland. This second series is devoted to Empire: Travel and Anthropology, Economics, Missionary and Colonial. It includes titles from India, Canada, South and East Africa, Australia and New Zealand alongside British titles, and covers both the economic and non-mercantile aspects of British expansionism.
Economist Historical Archive 1843 to 2015 The Economist Historical Archive delivers a complete searchable copy of every issue of The Economist from 1843 to 2015. New full-colour images, multiple search indexes, exportable financial tables and a gallery of front covers highlighting a key topic of each week - all combine to offer a primary source of research covering the 19th and 20th centuries. The Economist Historical Archive complements the Times Digital Archive also available from Gale/Cengage Learning.
Indigenous Histories and Cultures in North America Explore manuscripts, artwork and rare printed books dating from early European colonization up to photographs and Indigenous newspapers from the mid-twentieth century. Browse through a wide range of rare and original documents from treaties, speeches and diaries, to historic maps and travel journals.
Times Digital Archives The Times Digital Archive is a fully searchable facsimile edition of the Times (London) covering 1785-2019. Users can search news articles, obituaries, advertising and classifieds.

ABI/INFORM Collection
Major source for academic journals, trade publications, market and industry research reports, company annual reports, dissertations, and working papers. Also contains country profiles and economic forecasts for most major economies.
Alternative Press Index
Indexes nearly 300 alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and magazines covering cultural, economic, political & social change. Includes selected abstracts from research journals.
Globe and Mail
Coverage: 1844 - 2018
Electronic full-page newspaper archive includes all the stories, plus images, advertisements, classifieds, political cartoons, births and deaths from more than 1.4 million pages of Canada's National Newspaper, dating back to the pre-confederation era.
