Introduction

- Official Document SystemThe Official Document System (ODS) is an online database of UN documents that was first launched in 1993 and updated in 2016. ODS has full-text, born-digital UN documents published from 1993 onward, including documents of the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and their subsidiaries, as well as administrative issuances and other documents.
- Yearbook of the United NationsThe Yearbook of the United Nations—published by the Department of Global Communications—stands as the authoritative reference work on the activities and concerns of the Organization. Based on official UN documents, the Yearbook provides comprehensive coverage of political and security matters, human rights issues, economic and social questions, legal issues, and institutional, administrative and budgetary matters
- United Nations Statistical YearbookThe Statistical Yearbook provides in a single volume a comprehensive compilation of internationally available statistics on social and economic conditions and activities, at world, regional and national levels, for an appropriate historical period
Content published by the UN
Information is available in various formats (paper, microform, and online). Content published by the United Nations does usually not appear as articles in journals and magazines but instead as:
- laws
- regulations
- reports
- statistics
- surveys
They are primary research sources in many subjects and are often cited in journal articles and books. Use the research guide tabs above to identify and locate government publications by jurisdiction. It can be difficult to find government publications and especially if you are new to working with them. This guide is a starting point but please contact me if you have research questions.
