Can you trust the content you find online? Before using resources for your research, be sure they're reliable and suitable for your research.  The following guides and websites can help.  If you're still unsure, consult the Business Administration Liaison Librarian.

     Annual Reports:

  • CAROL (Company Annual Reports On Line) - Searchable database to annual reports for companies in the UK and Asia.
  • SEC Edgar - 10K and other company financial reports submitted to the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission.
  • SEDAR Home Page - (System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval) Annual reports for publicly traded Canadian Companies.  Look under "Company Profiles" for an A-Z list.

     Directories:

  • Canadian Company Capabilities - online database with over 35,000 Canadian companies and 200,000 products and services, from Industry Canada. 
  • Advice for Investors - Access annual and research reports for over 4,200 Canadian public companies. Also includes press releases, stocks and charts. Search by stock symbol or name.
  • Hoover's Company Records - Up to date proprietary editorial content covering more than 40,000 public and non-public companies and 225,000 key executives. Hoover's, widely recognized as a leading provider of corporate data, delivers in depth industry analyses, information on a company's location, summary financials, top competitors, top officers, and more.  (This resource is licensed for U of R faculty, staff and student use.)
  • Hoover's Online (free) - Business news and company information from the publishers of the Hoovers' Handbooks.
  • Report on Business Magazine - Top 1000 Companies - Ranks Canada's major companies and industries by revenue, profits and return. 
  • Thomas Register of American Manufacturers - Information on approximately 156,914 American and Canadian companies.
