There has been fake news for as long as there have been human civilizations. With the invention of the printing press in the 1400s and growing literacy rates, there was an inclination within society to believe what was printed. Over time we have had a rollercoaster relationship with the printed word (physical or digital), and varying levels of trust with media and publications. It's important to understand that not all information is created equal, and that this is not a new concept. The more we learn about thinking critically, the better we can understand the differences between fact and fiction, perspective and opinion, and shifting biases.
