While the University of Regina is (like all academic institutions) in the process of developing regulations and guidelines surrounding quickly developing technologies like ChatGPT and other forms of Artificial Intelligence, it is important to be aware of both the function of the technologies, and the academic integrity issues surrounding them. In most cases students should refer to the class syllabus provided by their instructor for specific ChatGPT/AI guidelines for each class. Always bear in mind that the University of Regina expects all students to adhere to the institution's academic integrity policies at all times without exception, which can be found here: https://academic-integrity.uregina.ca/
From the OpenAI Blog (Creator of ChatGPT):
"ChatGPT is a sibling model to InstructGPT, which is trained to follow an instruction in a prompt and provide a detailed response...
We trained this model using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), using the same methods as InstructGPT, but with slight differences in the data collection setup. We trained an initial model using supervised fine-tuning: human AI trainers provided conversations in which they played both sides—the user and an AI assistant. We gave the trainers access to model-written suggestions to help them compose their responses. We mixed this new dialogue dataset with the InstructGPT dataset, which we transformed into a dialogue format."
