It includes perspectives of explorers, Indigenous peoples, missionaries, officials, slaves, soldiers, and traders.The collection focuses on personal accounts through a range of published and unpublished accounts, including narratives, diaries, journals, letters, prints, drawings, paintings, maps, bibliographies,and photographs.
The collection is centered on present-day Canada and the United States with some limited coverage of Mexico.
